Chancery Court Division

CIVIL and CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM STRUCTURE
(a) Chancery Court Division: This division manages civil cases that involve issues of equity, such as probate, guardianship, divorce, and property disputes. It is presided over by the Chancellor, who is the highest judicial officer in the division.
(b) Circuit Court Division: This division manages criminal cases and civil cases that do not involve issues of equity, such as personal injury claims or contract disputes. It is presided over by the Circuit Judge, who is the highest judicial officer in the division.
(c) Appellate Court System: This system reviews decisions made by the Chancery and Circuit Courts. It is presided over by a panel of judges and is responsible for ensuring that the lower courts have applied the law correctly.
(d) Probation Department: This department is responsible for supervising individuals who have been placed on probation by the Chancery or Circuit Court. This may include monitoring compliance with court-ordered conditions, such as community service or drug testing.
(e) Bonding Agency: This agency is responsible for posting bail for individuals who have been arrested and are awaiting trial. It may also be responsible for enforcing forfeiture of bonds in cases where the defendant fails to appear in court.

(a) Law Enforcement Structure:
• Sheriff: This is the chief law enforcement officer in the county, responsible for enforcing the law, maintaining order, and protecting life and property.
• Court Marshal/Bailiff: This is a law enforcement officer who may be responsible for enforcing court orders and providing security for the court.
• Constable: This is a law enforcement officer who may be responsible for serving legal documents, enforcing court orders, and providing security for court proceedings.
• Police Officer: This is a law enforcement officer who may be responsible for maintaining public order, enforcing laws, and responding to emergency situations.
